This is a very simple idea to start a lesson.
Start with a deliberate mistake. Note this could also be used as a review.
Examples:
- A statement about something students have learnt previously or something which is coming up in the lesson. Ask students to discuss it. See if they recognise the error or it prompts debate.
- A response to an exam question which is incorrect. See if students can spot the error
- Provide two different statements or answers to questions. Ask students to work out which is wrong and why?
Don’t make the mistake too obvious or easy or there will be little value in this activity. The idea is to make students think and consider what they know about a topic.
By all means get students debating with each other first or considering their response individually before asking students to share their thoughts.
